Anthem to Raise Rates on Grandfathered Plans up to 25%

Anthem Blue Cross policyholders that have grandfathered plans will be in for sticker shock when they see their renewal increases take effect April 1.  About 306,000 Californians will be impacted by Anthem’s rate increase which are 16% on average and range up to 25%.  These rate increases only apply to policies that were written before the Affordable Care Act was passed in 2010 and do not impact any of the new Covered California or Obamacare plans.  Individuals who had an individual policy prior to the passage of the Affordable Care Act were not required to change plans per Obama’s famous speech “if you like your health plan, you can keep it”.

Well, increases like this may force people to shed their grandfathered plan and buy a new health plan that is compliant with the Affordable Care Act.  If you have an Anthem grandfathered policy, you may be eligible to receive a premium subsidy that can substantially cut the costs of your insurance.  See if you are eligible for a premium subsidy by reviewing our chart and calling us at 800-788-2197
