Covered California and Medi-Cal Enrollment Numbers Released

On January 21, 2014 Covered California released enrollment statistics for the period of October 1, 2013 through January 1, 2014.   500,128 Californians enrolled in a Covered California health plan and 584,000 applicants were determined likely eligible for Medi-Cal coverage.  Of those that enrolled in a Covered California health plan 424,936 or 85% received subsidies to reduce the cost of their insurance.  A total of close to 2 million applications were started but not completed.


Silver plans were the most popular.  Silver plan enrollment was 66%, followed by Bronze at 21%, Gold at 6%, Platinum at 5% and Minimum Coverage plan enrollment was less than 1%.
Leading the pack in enrollments is Anthem Blue Cross at over 30%, followed by Blue Shield of California at 29%, Kaiser at 19% and Health Net at 16%.    Collectively these four carriers account for almost 96% of enrollments.
