Covered California Deadline Quickly Approaching

The deadline to enroll in a Covered California or private health insurance plan is quickly approaching with only 66 days left until the deadline.

Individuals who do not enroll in a qualified health plan by March 31, 2014 will be subject to a tax penalty and cannot enroll in coverage until the next open enrollment period which begins November 15, 2014 for a January 1, 2015 effective date.

Many people are leaving money on the table.  The federal government is offering generous financial assistance.  It is estimated that over 75% of uninsured Californians will qualify for premium subsidies that reduce the cost of health insurance and are paid directly to the insurance company selected by the consumer.  To find out if you qualify for a subsidy, check out this premium subsidy calculator for California residents developed by UC Berkeley.

Avoid glitches in the state-run website while they are making fixes and the long-hold times for their call center as they are overwhelmed with more applicants than anticipated.   Instead, call a Covered California Certified Insurance Agent, like the ones at Affordable CA that are staffed to take your calls and enroll you over the phone.
