What does “state (public) exchange” and “private market” mean?

Our state exchange is Covered California. If you qualify for government subsidies, you must buy your insurance through the state exchange. If you’re not eligible, or you want more healthcare plan choices, the private market may be a better fit for you. Affordable California will help you figure out the best option for you and your family.

How is Affordable California able to provide services at no cost?

Affordable California is no cost to individuals, families and employers because insurers pay us a fee to distribute their products, just like they do traditional brokers.
