Funding Approved to Enroll Families in Medi-Cal

Covered California will now be providing payment to certified insurance agents to sign up people for Medi-Cal.  $28 million in funding has been approved for providing enrollment assistance for persons newly eligible under Medi-Cal through the state’s Department of Health Care Services.  The funding is estimated to cover 450,000 new applications for persons that are newly eligible but not have been enrolled in the past 12 months.  Prior to this funding, agents were not compensated for enrolling people in Medi-Cal.

Several million people are estimated to be newly eligible for the state’s free healthcare program under Medicaid expansion implemented as part of the Affordable Care Act.  Covered California has enrolled approximately 450,000 people in Medi-Cal since open enrollment began in October.
