Medi-Cal: See if You and Your Family Qualify for Free Health Insurance

What is Medi-Cal?

Medi-Cal provides free health insurance for individuals, families and children that qualify.  In 2014, the state of California is expanding access to Medi-Cal so that more people will qualify.  A family of four can now earn up to $32,499 and qualify for Medi-Cal.

Why Should I get Medi-Cal?

Health Care Reform – also known as the Affordable Care Act – requires most people to have health insurance or pay a penalty.   With Medi-Cal, you and your family can get the same type of health coverage that you may have gotten in the past through an employer or paid for on your own.  Even if you or your family members have not health insurance before – Medi-Cal may be the way to get it.

Who Qualifies for Medi-Cal?

More people in California are now eligible for Medi-Cal.  Depending on your household size and family income, you and your family may qualify for Medi-Cal, or your children may qualify for Medi-Cal for Children.  Use the charts in the Medi-Cal Fact Sheet to find out which programs you and your family qualify for.
